One of the very rare "Dan Smith" model Stratocaster's made in the earliest days of the Fender Japan venture, these are essentially a 1983 Fender USA Two-Knob Stratocaster that was manufactured by the Fujigen factory.
These share many similarities with their US counterparts but there are some subtle differences. The maple neck has the Japanese “wide” dot spacing on the fingerboard and the headstock shape corrects the slightly rounder contour on the US models. The shape of the body also corrects the oddball “Fullerton” style found on US models from late 1981, and the neck pocket has the correct routing without the oversized corner routes. They both share the same Schaller components, FreeFlyte tremolo and BiFlex truss rod along with Fender USA pickups and this one appears to be factory original.
Good vintage condition, professionally serviced prior to listing and plays nicely with plenty of life in the medium-jumbo frets. A true rarity and a great part of Fender history.
