Equal parts rare and desirable, the MC980 is one of the best 8-string basses ever made. Produced by the Fujigen factory in very limited numbers, these were only offered for two years in 1980-81 before being discontinued and were a premium offering from the Ibanez Musician series.
Mahogany/ash body with a 5-piece neckthrough maple/walnut construction and a 24 fret ebony fingerboard (44mm nut width, 820mm scale length), it weighs 5.2kg's. Solid brass bridge and tailpiece with a brass/bony hybrid nut, Super 4 pickups with an active two-band EQ (as well as a mini toggle switch to bypass the EQ), this one has a replacement three-way pickup selector otherwise appears to be all original.
Great vintage condition as pictured with general wear and tear but no breaks or repairs. The neck is straight and the truss works perfectly, the frets are shiny and smooth and it plays great. Restrung with D'Addario's and given a full professional service prior to listing.
